Game Notes

NORFOLK, Va. -
On its first two-game losing streak since 2006, the Norfolk State football team (2-3, 1-1 MEAC) resumes its schedule at preseason MEAC favorite South Carolina State (4-2, 2-0) this Saturday.

The Spartans had a bye last week following their 33-17 loss at Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 27. NSU trailed 19-17 with just over four minutes left, but Bethune-Cookman recovered a costly NSU fumble deep in Spartan territory en route to the clinching touchdown. DeAngelo Branche (Norfolk, Va.) led the Spartans with 124 yards rushing on 21 carries, while quarterback Dennis Brown (Miami, Fla.) tallied 169 yards of total offense and scored his first career rushing TD as a Spartan.

South Carolina State remained one of two unbeatens in the MEAC along with Hampton, improving
to 2-0 with a 28-21 win at Florida A&M last Saturday. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 20-0 halftime
lead only to surrender three scores and fall behind 21-20 in the third quarter. But Will Ford (23 carries,
149 yards) scored on a 44-yard run late in the third to give SCSU the lead for good. Malcom Long
threw two touchdown passes to Oliver Young for the Bulldogs.
