The Nat Warren Tennis Invitational consists of six NCAA regulation-sized tennis courts. The facility has bleacher seating for upwards of 100 fans with visibility of all six courts. Bathrooms and storage areas are also located at the complex.
Beginning in the fall of 2014 and continuing into the next year, Norfolk State’s tennis facility underwent a complete renovation, which included the removal and replacement of the old subsurface and asphalt to prevent future cracking. All of the fencing was also replaced, and the area between courts was turned into a brick plaza for fans to congregate. Bricks are engraved with the names of those who have donated to the tennis program.
A new Daktronics scoreboard was added at the same time, capable of showing live results and other pictures and graphics. The scoreboard is dedicated to former head coach Nathaniel Warren and several major sponsors to the program.
The old wooden bleachers in the brick plaza were replaced with three durable metal ones. New windscreens were also purchased, and the courts were repainted in light green with gold lines as well as dark green in the out-of-bounds areas. In addition to the scoreboard, manual Rol Dri Tennis Scorekeepers were also added to each court to keep fans up-to-date on matches as they happen.
The renovation also involved an expansion of the brick building next to the entrance to not only include bathroom facilities but, for the first time, storage areas for the teams.
