Spartan Lanes

The home of the Norfolk State bowling team opened up prior to the 2011-12 season with the completion of the Spartan Lanes inside the Student Services Center. The eight-lane facility offers the opportunity for the Spartans to conduct practices and potentially host smaller tournaments without having to drive to an off-site bowling alley.

Located on the first floor of the building and in the heart of campus, Spartan Lanes is situated less than 200 yards from Gill Gymnasium, home to the athletic department’s entire academic center, the NSU Weight Room, the NSU Sports Medicine Department and a lounge area for the team. Spartan Lanes is also just a short walk from other athletic facilities and dormitories, and the NSU Student Center is right next door.

Spartan Lanes also provides storage space for the bowling team’s gear, eliminating the need to haul equipment back and forth to practice. Previously, the Spartans trained at Bowlero Chesapeake on Battlefield Rd., a location NSU still uses when hosting the Hampton Roads Invitational, previous MEAC Southern Divisionals, current MEAC regular season meets, or any other larger tournaments. The MEAC Tournament has been held at Bowlero Chesapeake every year since 2013 except for 2020 when the tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19.

More Information on Spartan Lanes

The Spartans hosted their first tournament at Spartan Lanes on Dec. 6 and 7, 2014, when NSU welcomed other conference schools for the MEAC Southern Divisional.

In addition to storage space, Spartan Lanes provides different sizes of bowling balls for use and a snack bar with food and drinks. Its cozy setting also makes it an ideal location for hosting various leagues and tournaments throughout the year.
