NORFOLK, Va. – Delaware won all five contested singles matches in straight sets and swept through doubles as well in a 7-0 win over the Norfolk State women's tennis team Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference match at the NSU Tennis Courts.
The Blue Hens improved to 6-2 overall on the season and dropped the Spartans' record to 7-9.
Delaware won both doubles matches by an 8-0 score, with Samantha Carnall and Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom taking the No. 1 match over senior
Naeemah Brooks and junior
Rebecca Graff. In the other contested match, Dorothy Safron and Courtney Fenimore downed sophomore
Maryna Kariuk and freshman
Laura Gutierrez at the No. 2 spot.
The Blue Hens also won the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches by default. Carnall posted a perfect 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Brooks at the No. 1 singles position, while Fenimore did the same at the No. 3 slot against Graff. Sjoberg-Sundstrom earned the third 6-0, 6-0 win of the day against Kariuk at the No. 4 spot as well.
Gutierrez dropped her match at the No. 2 position by a 6-0, 6-2 score, while freshman
Kia Batiste came up on the short end of a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Kimberly Milla at the fifth spot.
NSU will hit the road Wednesday to face Liberty at 2:30 p.m.
