Bethune-Cookman Sweeps NSU, 7-0

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team closed out the MEAC Southern Division Roundup with a 7-0 loss to Bethune-Cookman on Monday morning.

The Lady Wildcats opened up the match with a 8-4 win at the No. 1 spot as Mina Matsuba and Maria Sablina teamed up to defeat Liza Gordeeva and Andrea Macchiavello. Krystal Scott and Mafalda Lhorca fell to Chinatsu Kajiwara and Gaby Chinchilla, 8-5. NSU's only win in doubles play came at the No. 3 position. Marie Habiyaremye and Yvonne Kamegne posted an 8-6 win against Maria Dimitrova and Elizabeth Nyenwe.

NSU continued to struggle in singles play. Gordeeva fell to Kajiwara, 6-3, 6-4. At the No. 2 position, Macchiavello suffered a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Matsuba. Sablina upended Kamegne in the No. 3 spot, 0-6, 6-4, 1-0(5). Lhorca fell to Nyenwe, 6-2, 6-4. Scott competed at the No. 5 slot, where she suffered a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Chinchilla. Habiyaremye closed things out with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Dimitrova.

The Spartans return to action on March 19 to face NJIT. Play will begin at 12 p.m. at the NSU Tennis Courts in Norfolk, Va.
