NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team defeated Coppin State, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon at the Everett Tennis Center.

NSU (6-7, 2-4) started the match with the doubles competition. Andrea Macchiavello and Liza Gordeeva teamed up at the No. 1 spot, where they posted an 8-1 win against Jennifer Mitchell and Miranda Taylor. At the No. 2 position, Krystal Scott and Mafalda Lhorca defeated Katherine Chisholm and Carentxa Goode, 8-1. Yvonne Kamegne and Marie Habiyaremye competed at the No. 3 spot, where they upended Ashley Milo and Zollisca Sunkiss, 8-0.

Gordeeva led off singles play with a Carentxa Goode, 6-0, 6-1. Macchiavello posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Milo. Kamegne competed at the No. 3 position, where she defeated Miranda Taylor, 6-0, 6-0. Lhorca tallied her third-straight singles win after she upended Zollisca Sunkiss, 6-1, 6-2. The Spartans won at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions due to the match being retired. Scott was up on Chisholm, 6-0, 5-0, and Ana Popovic led Mitchell, 6-0, 5-0.

NSU will take on Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday. The match will be played at the Everett Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan at 10 a.m.
