FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood was able to take advantage of a short-handed NSU lineup in a 4-1 victory over the Norfolk State women's tennis team on Sunday afternoon at Lancer Courts.
The Spartans defaulted at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles, giving the Lancers the doubles point in the process as the teams split the other two matches. Longwood (7-10) only had to win two other singles matches after the Lancers also picked up another point at the sixth singles position.

Yvonne Kamegne gave NSU (4-9) its only point of the day when she defeated Maria Coronel at the No. 3 singles slot, 6-3 and 6-3.

Andrea Macchiavello also won in doubles at the No. 1 spot, defeating Malin Allgurin and Paloma Alatorre, 8-6. The Lancers, though, earned a hard-fought win at the second position for the doubles point. Nicole Parker and Anna Pelak just squeezed past senior

Liza Gordeeva, 8-7.
Pelak downed Macchiavello by a 6-4, 6-3 score at the No. 2 singles slot, while Alatorre defeated Scott, 6-2 and 6-0, at the No. 4 position to give Longwood the match win.
In the other two contested matchups, Gordeeva won 6-4 in the first set over Allgurin at the No. 1 spot before Allgurin won the second set, 6-2. Thomas defeated Lhorca, 6-4, in the first set in their matchup at the fifth position, while the two players were tied at 4-4 in the second set. Both matches were called once the overall match was decided.
NSU will play at North Carolina Central on Tuesday at 1:30 in a MEAC Southern Division contest. A victory would push the Spartans closer to securing a spot in the MEAC tournament for the first time in four years.
