| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's basketball team plays its third straight in-state opponent this Sunday, this time taking the short trip across town to face Old Dominion. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. at ODU's Chartway Arena.

The game will be video streamed on CUSA.tv and also will be broadcast on 91.1 FM The Soul of VA. Ross Gordon and Woube Gebre will have the call.

The Spartans (3-5) will be looking for their second straight win coming off an impressive 66-59 triumph at George Mason on Monday night in Fairfax. Mahoganie Williams posted 18 points, 10 rebounds, six blocks and three assists in the win. Niya Fields added a career-best 12 points and five assists, Camille Downs scored 11 points and Makoye Diawara chipped in with nine points and nine boards.

The Spartans made 42 percent of their shots from the floor and held the Patriots to 27 percent accuracy.

ODU has won five in a row following its 70-29 victory over Bowie State on Wednesday. The Monarchs were led by 11 points each from Ajah Wayne and Amari Young. ODU scored 35 points off 30 Bowie State turnovers.

Sunday marks the 19th meeting all-time between the schools. ODU holds a 15-3 edge over the Spartans. The Lady Monarchs won 69-53 at Chartway Arena on Nov. 9, 2018, in the teams' last meeting. NSU's last victory came in the 1975-76 season.

NSU-ODU Tip-Ins
  • Mahoganie Williams won MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. She blocked six shots at George Mason and four in the previous game, with Hampton. The GMU game also marked her second double-double of the season.
  • Williams' 10 blocks in back-to-back games are the most by a Spartan in a two-game stretch since Khadedra Croker had 10 against South Carolina State and Savannah State in February of 2018.
  • Five Spartans notched career highs in scoring at George Mason: Mahoganie Williams (18), Fields (12), Diawara (nine), Danaijah Williams (eight) and Larri Sydnor (four). Sydnor scored the first points of her collegiate career.
  • Camille Downs has scored in double figures in four straight games. She is averaging 12.3 points per game in that span. On the season, she leads NSU in scoring at 10.3 points per outing, No. 9 in the MEAC.
  • Mahoganie Williams leads the conference with 2.6 blocks per game and also ranks sixth in the MEAC in rebounding (6.3). She is one of two Spartans in the top 10 in the league in blocks, with the other being point guard Deja Francis, at 0.9 per game (seventh in MEAC).
  • Sunday's game will pit two good defenses against each other. NSU is second in the MEAC in both field goal percentage defense (36.4) and 3-point defense (29.3), and third in scoring defense (61.9 ppg allowed). ODU is first in Conference USA, allowing 49.3 points per game, and second in field goal defense (34.7).
