Spartans host the Pirates of Hampton in Battle of the Bay Part 2

NORFOLK, Va. | The Norfolk State University Spartan softball team returns to action at the NSU Softball Field on Wednesday, April 12, when they host the Hampton University Pirates for part two of the Battle of the Bay - Softball style.

The Spartans (17-15) head into the midweek doubleheader on a six-game win streak after back-to-back sweeps of Coppin State University and South Carolina State University. Norfolk State in a combined 37 innings has scored 46 runs while allowing only 15 runs in the last six games.

NSU is led by Yrral Davis at the plate with a .333 batting average scoring 17 runs on 57 hits, a trio of doubles, two home runs, and 16 RBI. Rylie Gilbreath and Gabby Vaughan are close behind with .310 and .308 respectively. In the most recent series against SCSU, Vaughan tied the program record for doubles in a career and looks to claim sole ownership of the record with her 40th double tomorrow against Hampton.

In the circle for the Spartans. seniors Alexis Robinson and Cam Andersen have been leading the way. Between the two, they have a collective 14-9 win/loss record with six complete games and three shutouts, with two saves in 155.2 innings pitched.

Norfolk State and Hampton will meet up for a midweek doubleheader on April 12 with game times set for 1 PM and 3 PM at the NSU Softball Field in Norfolk, VA. The meeting between NSU and HU will be the 122nd/123rd playing of the Battle of the Bay. Hampton holds the series lead 76-44-1. When the teams met earlier this season, the teams split the doubleheader with HU winning game one 6-3, and NSU winning game two 12-10.
