ELON, N.C. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team closed out its fall state over the weekend at the Elon Invitational.
 
Jakub Solarski made the most significant impression in the singles department, putting together a brief run against stiff competition in the B Draw. Solarski took down Wake Forest sophomore Martin Mazev 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3, before defeating Richmond freshman Sam Rathmanner 6-3, 6-3. His hot stretch came to an end with a three-set loss to Elon's Charles Pilet.
 
Vladisav Gorbatenko represented the Spartans well in the C Draw, starting with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over ETSU's James Sim. He kept the momentum going with wins over UNC Charlotte's Lance Cochrane (7-6, 6-0) and Furman's Connor Laymon (6-2, 6-7, 10-6), falling to Furman freshman Nicolas Dispas (7-5, 6-2).
 
Deniz Okyay added multiple consolation wins in the same bracket, defeating South Carolina State's Ivan Pauliuchenka 6-2, 7-5, before taking down North Carolina A&T sophomore Kaua Santos by the same score.
