NSU Dominates Coppin State for Fifth Consecutive Victory

Box Score WASHINGTON D.C. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team kept the momentum going at the MEAC Tennis Roundup on Saturday, earning its fifth consecutive victory in a 6-1 result over Coppin State.
 
The Spartans (9-9, 2-1 MEAC) clinched the doubles point quickly to go ahead 1-0 in the match. Boris Lunin and Vladisav Gorbatenko won 6-1 at the No. 2 position, before Igor Kubalka and Frederick McRae produced the same 6-1 result at the No. 3 slot.
 
The Spartans carried that momentum swiftly into singles play, starting with a comfortable 6-1, 6-0 victory from Deniz Okyay over Liam Murtaugh at the No. 3 position. Jakub Solarski finished his match moments later, cruising past Harsh Kheterpal 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 slot.
 
Coppin State won its lone point of the day at the No. 5 position, where Dentry Mortimer defeated Kubalka by opponent retirement. McRae clinched the dual match victory for the Spartans soon after, though, besting Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov 6-1, 6-1 at position four.
 
Vladisav Gorbatenko pulled out a 3-6, 6-0, 10-3 triumph over Tinashe Whata at the top spot in the lineup, before Luka Cjetkovic closed out the afternoon with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-1 win at the No. 6 position.
