Box Score WASHINGTON D.C. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team improved to 3-0 in conference play on Saturday, taking down Delaware 5-2 at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation.
The Spartans (10-8, 3-0 MEAC) lost the top doubles position, but took care of business on the other two courts to earn the opening point.
Irina Iurea and
Angelina Maniawska won 6-2 at the No. 2 position, before
Sofiya Tsitavets and
Ines Sabadie grabbed a 6-2 victory at the No. 3 slot.
Tsitavets continued her fantastic stretch, defeating Lucia Casas Blas 6-3, 6-3 at the top spot in the singles lineup.
Caroline Nicholls got in the win column with a dominant result over Eva Golembiovski at the No 3 position, holding a 6-0, 2-0 lead before her opponent retired from the match.
Delaware State's Kit Yi Kaye Au-Yeung put Delaware State on the board with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over
Yuliya Yurkova at the No. 2 slot, as Camilla Mitolo took down Sabadie 7-6 (0), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3) in a marathon match on Court 4.
The Iurea sisters closed out the match for the Spartans from there.
Irina Iurea beat Victoria Linkovski 6-2, 7-6 (3) at position five, while
Sabina Iurea defeated Brooklyn Bowen 6-3, 6-3 at the sixth slot.
