Norfolk State Set for Midweek Matchup vs. ODU; Weekend Series against Mount St. Mary’s

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State baseball team opens a four-game homestand this week, beginning with a midweek matchup against cross-town rival Old Dominion before hosting Mount St. Mary's for a three-game weekend series.
 
Norfolk State enters the week 2-4 overall after dropping two of three games to Manhattan (10-16, 4-13, 11-10). Old Dominion brings a 5-2 record into Wednesday's contest following a three-game sweep of Niagara (5-4, 8-5, 5-4). Mount St. Mary's sits at 2-5 after falling three times to UMass (4-6, 6-10, 5-7).
 
ABOUT NORFOLK STATE
Mason Mompoint leads the Spartans with a .471 batting average, totaling a team-high eight hits, three RBIs, one double and one home run. Thomas Ealey follows with a .400 average, while Justin Journette (.348) and Cameron Mazell (.300) round out the top contributors.
 
On the mound, Ethan Blakeney (1-1) owns a 3.00 ERA and a team-best eight strikeouts. Walker Fuller (0-1) carries a 6.23 ERA with six strikeouts, and Parker Hampton (1-0) posts a 7.50 ERA with five strikeouts.
 
ABOUT OLD DOMINION
Zach Leite paces the Monarchs with a .429 batting average, compiling a team-high 12 hits, eight RBIs, two doubles and two home runs. Tyler Zedalis hits .368, while TJ Aiken (.360) and Maverick Stallings (.360) provide additional offensive production.
 
Right-hander Ryan Sheehy (0-0) holds a 3.86 ERA with four strikeouts and has allowed four hits this season.
 
ABOUT MOUNT ST. MARY'S
Ty Fredo leads the Mountaineers with a .348 batting average, recording a team-high eight hits and 10 RBIs along with one double, one triple and one home run. Mike Toth bats .333, followed by Nathan Rodriguez at .300.
 
Josh Halcisak (0-1) anchors the pitching staff with a 3.86 ERA and 11 strikeouts. Maximus McCrary (1-1) owns a 6.75 ERA and shares the team lead with 11 strikeouts.

Wednesday, Feb. 25 — vs. Old Dominion, 3 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 27 — vs. Mount St. Mary's, 3 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 28 — vs. Mount St. Mary's, 1 p.m.
Sunday, March 1 — vs. Mount St. Mary's, 1 p.m.
All games will take place at Marty L. Miller Field on the campus of Norfolk State University.
