Norfolk State Men's Tennis Advances with 4-0 Win Over Coppin State

CARY, N.C. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Thursday afternoon, sweeping No. 6 seed Coppin State 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Tennis Championship at Cary Tennis Park. 

With the win, the Spartans improve to 13-10 overall and advance to the semifinal round, where they will face No. 2 seed North Carolina Central at 12 p.m. on Friday. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 

Norfolk State set the tone early in doubles play, winning at the top two flights to secure the opening point. 

Przemek Nikolajuk and Dominik Simunovic struck first with a 6-1 victory over Ulugbek Abdurakhmono and Aidan Thomas-Cogar at No. 1 doubles. Boris Lunin and Szymon Janzen followed with a 6-1 win over Andre Dogbefu and Liam Murtaugh at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point. The Spartans also held the advantage at No. 3 before play was halted. 

The Spartans carried that momentum into singles, claiming three straight matches to secure the 4-0 victory. 

Freshman Marcin Andrzejczak led the charge at the top spot, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Rishi Jalota. Simunovic extended the lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles over Dogbefu. 

Marcin Dójczynski sealed the match for Norfolk State at No. 6 singles, defeating Thomas-Cogar 6-3, 6-1. 

At the time of the clinch, Szymon Malecki led 6-2, 5-2 at No. 2 singles, while Szymon Janzen and Kasper Kulpa had each claimed first sets, 6-4, at the No. 3 and No. 5 positions, respectively. 

UP NEXT 

Norfolk State advances to the MEAC Men's Tennis Championship semifinals, set for 12 p.m. on Friday, April 24, at Cary Tennis Park. The Spartans will face No. 2 seed North Carolina Central.
