Biography

2018 (Junior): Played in 48 games and started 47 times … Was second on the team with three home runs and tied for third with 13 stolen bases … Drove in 21 runs and tallied 11 extra-base hits (seven doubles, one triple, three homers) … Had consecutive two-hit games against VCU (2-for-3, 2 runs) and Lehigh (2-for-4, double, two RBI) in early march … Hit a two-run homer to help NSU finish a sweep of Delaware State in the first MEAC series of the year … Hit a three-run blast and an RBI single as he drove in a season-high four runs in another win over DSU in April … Hit a two-run homer against Coppin State in the teams’ final series … Member of the MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team … Named to the NSU AD’s Honor Roll for the spring semester.

2017 (Redshirt): Played in just four games before suffering a season-ending injury on Feb. 22 vs. North Carolina A&T … Started three of those first four games … Went 3-for-4, matching his career high in hits, in the series finale against Villanova … Hit a solo homer and an RBI single and finished the game with three runs scored … Named to the NSU AD Honor Roll for both semesters and earned a spot on the MEAC All-Academic Team.

2016 (Sophomore): Played in 48 games and started 38 times … Tied for the team-lead in home runs, with five … Led NSU with 19 extra-base hits and was second with 32 RBI and 11 doubles … Also hit three triples and stole seven bases … For the season, batted .242 with 37 hits in 153 at-bats … Tied for third in the MEAC with his three triples … Stole three bases in the first four games of the season … Had eight hits in 14 at-bats in the four-game series with NJIT, including three doubles and one homer … Went 3-for-5 with a solo homer, two doubles and three RBI in the series opener … Batted 5-for-5 with two doubles, four runs and four RBI in the last two games against the Highlanders … Hit a solo home run in the first win at N.C. Central in early march … Also had a big series with Towson … Went 6-for-15 with six extra-base hits (four doubles, two homers), eight RBI and four runs scored in the three games with Towson, earning MEAC Player of the Week honors … Hit the go-ahead three-run homer in a 3-for-4, four-RBI day in the first game of the series … Matched his career highs with three hits and four RBI in that game … In the finale of the Towson series, Mahdi went 2-for-5 with four RBI and a three-run homer to help the Spartans take the series … Had a nine-game hit streak that started with the third game with NJIT and went through the Towson series … Had another six-game hitting streak spanning the first MDES series, a non-conference game with Longwood and the first two games of the first Coppin State series … Hit a double and a triple and scored twice in a 2-for-4 night at Longwood … Hit a solo homer in the first win over DSU in the May series between the teams … Hit a two-run double in the last Coppin State series … Played for the Texas Marshals in the Texas Collegiate Summer League … Batted .242 with 15 stolen bases for the Marshals.
 
2015 (Freshman): Started 31 times and played in 36 games total as a freshman … Saw action in the outfield (18 games played) and at second base (17) … Hit .279 with six doubles, one triple and one home run while knocking in 15 runs … Scored 20 times and stole seven bases in 10 attempts … Had 10 multi-hit games … Went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored in the final game at IPFW … Had the first of his two three-hit games for the year at Virginia Tech … Went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double in that contest … That started a five-game hitting streak for Mahdi, including a 5-for-11 series against Coppin State … Named the MEAC Co-Rookie of the Week following the games with Va. Tech and CSU … Doubled twice and drove in a season-high four runs in a 2-for-4 game at Coppin State in April … Hit a two-run homer, his first collegiate round-tripper, at Richmond … Went 3-for-5, matching his career high in hits and scoring a career-high three runs, in that game as well … Went 2-for-5 in the Spartans’ first two games of the MEAC Tournament, against Delaware State and MDES … Had an RBI double in the win over MDES … A member of the NSU Athletics Director’s Honor Roll for the fall 2014 semester … Played over the summer for the Kissimmee Astros RBI League in Florida.
 
High School: Four-year varsity letterwinner in baseball … Also lettered one year in football … Batted .400 with three home runs, 17 RBI and 15 runs scored as a senior … Was a preseason all-state selection … Named Team Maryland MVP during his travel baseball season.
