Asia Williams enters her second season as an Assistant Coach/ Recruiting Coordinator at Norfolk State in 2026-27.
In her first season, Williams helped guide the Spartans to an 18-15 record, a fifth consecutive appearance in the MEAC Championship game, and the program’s second-ever berth in the WNIT. She also played a key role in developing MEAC Defensive Player of the Year Jasha Clinton, All-MEAC First Team selection Da’Brya Clark, and All-MEAC Second Team honorees Clinton and Anjanae Richardson.
Williams helped establish Norfolk State as one of the nation’s top defensive teams, ranking second in field goal percentage defense (33.8), third in 3-point field goal percentage defense (25.5), 10th in steals per game (12.4), 21st in blocks per game (5.0), and 23rd in turnovers forced per game (20.8).
A proven recruiter, Williams previously helped sign the top-ranked recruiting class in the CAA and the nation’s No. 47 class in 2021, according to the Dan Olson Women’s Basketball Report, during her time at the College of Charleston.
Williams also served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at UNC Wilmington, where she helped bring in six newcomers for the 2022-23 season, including a transfer from NC State. She coached CAA Sixth Player of the Year and All-CAA Third Team selection Za’Nautica Downs, along with All-CAA Second Team honoree Carol-Anne Obusek during the 2021-22 season.
Her previous experience includes serving as recruiting coordinator at Western Carolina and as an assistant coach at UNC Greensboro. At UNCG, she helped guide the program to its first 20-win season in a decade during the 2016-17 campaign, along with a Southern Conference Championship semifinal appearance and a WNIT berth.
Williams also spent the 2015-16 season at LIU Brooklyn, where she coached All-Northeast Conference Third Team selection Shanice Vaughan.
She began her coaching career at Appalachian State, spending two seasons with the Mountaineers and coaching standout forward Maryah Sydnor, who earned First Team All-SoCon and First Team All-Sun Belt honors.
A 2013 graduate of Wake Forest, Williams was a standout player for the Demon Deacons, scoring 145 points during her senior season and ranking fourth on the team with 10.4 points per game. She also helped lead the program to two WNIT appearances.
As a high school standout, Williams earned North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year honors in 2009 at Hillside High School and was a two-time PAC-6 Conference Player of the Year.
