Kevin Dent comes to Norfolk State University with coaching experience from all levels, having spent nearly two decades developing offensive linemen at the youth, middle school, high school, and collegiate ranks, offensive line coaching has been his singular focus and passion throughout his career.
Dent's most recent stop was at Virginia Union University, where he served as assistant offensive line coach in 2024 and 2025. In 2024, his offensive line blocked for a combined 3,540 rushing yards with a single back, Jada Byers, accounting for 2,127 of those yards. In 2025, the line paved the way for 3,791 combined rushing yards behind Curtis Allen, who rushed for 2,766 yards and captured the Harlon Hill Award as Division II's Player of the Year. During his time at Virginia Union, Dent helped develop Joe Rounds (transferred to Southern Miss), Adrian Crestpin (transferred to Middle Tennessee), Justin Royes (transferred to UCF), and Mathias Nielsen (transferred to UNC Charlotte).
Before Virginia Union, Dent spent nine seasons under head coach Loren Johnson at Highland Springs High School, serving as offensive line coach and run game coordinator for a staff that captured five state championships, two state runner-up finishes, and multiple regional titles. He helped develop future NFL talent including Mekhi Becton (New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Chargers), Mike Greene (formerly Tampa Bay Buccaneers), and Kelvin Gilliam (Dallas Cowboys), along with countless linemen who went on to play at the Division I, II, and III levels. Highland Springs' offensive line produced several standout rushing seasons under his tutelage, including a 2023 campaign that topped 3,000 rushing yards.
Dent's coaching path also includes one season at Henrico High School and one at Brookland Middle School, both in Richmond, Va., as well as his start in coaching guiding his son's team at Chamberlayne Packers Youth Football from 2008-2011.
Outside of team coaching, Dent founded and ran Oline Ultimate Training (O.U.T.), where he trained high school and college offensive linemen including Darius Gray (South Carolina), Brady Sakowitz (North Carolina State), Jayvier Frazier (South Carolina State), Doug Clevert III (Emory & Henry), Tkhi Alexander (Towson), and Bryson Mast (Richmond).
A three-year starter for the Virginia Union Panthers, Dent won the 1996 Burger Scholar Athlete of the Year award and was designated an HBCU Football Athlete to Watch. He also earned multiple Player of the Week honors at Virginia Union and was invited to the 1997 NFL Regional Combine.
A native of Richmond, Virginia, Dent graduated from Monacan High School before earning his bachelor's degree in Math/Computer Science from Virginia Union University in 1997 and his master's degree in Math and Material Science Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1999. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., through the Gamma Alpha chapter. Coach Dent is married to Stacy and he has three sons: Jordan, Juwan and Jerel.
