NORFOLK, Va. – On the road for the first two weeks of the season, the Norfolk State volleyball team will compete at home for the first time this season in an improved Joseph Echols Hall for the Spartan Classic this Thursday through Saturday.

Charlotte, UMES and Bethune-Cookman will join the host Spartans for the three-day event, with each team playing three times. NSU will kick things off on Thursday against Charlotte at 7 p.m. The Spartans play Bethune-Cookman at 7 p.m. on Friday and UMES at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

UMES and Charlotte will also play at 4 p.m. on Friday, while Bethune-Cookman will play UMES at 11 a.m. and Charlotte at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The matches will mark the first official competition in Echols Hall since construction began in late May on putting in chairback seating in place of the old bleachers and re-sanding and repainting the floor.

Live stats will be available for all of the matches here. There will also be a live video stream for every match through Spartan Showcase Video Streaming. Cost of the live feed is $5 for a single match or $8 for a doubleheader when a team plays twice in one day.

NSU enters the tournament with a 2-5 record overall. Bethune-Cookman stands 1-5, with the lone win coming against Savannah State last weekend. UMES stand 0-6, while Charlotte has the best pedigree of the four teams with a 3-4 record.

Last Time Out
NSU pushed West Virginia in the first and second sets but ultimately fell by a 3-0 score to open the Mountaineer Invitational last weekend. The Spartans had leads late in the first and second sets of their match with Navy later in the day on Friday, but the Midshipmen rallied for a 3-0 win.

Then on Saturday, NSU did the rallying, overcoming a 2-1 deficit to defeat Canisius by a 3-2 score. The Spartans closed out the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Fordham.
