NSU Keeps Win Streak Alive with 7-0 Victory Over UMES

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team increased its win streak to three as they posted a 7-0 victory against Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday morning at the Everett Tennis Center.

The Spartans improve to 7-7 overall, while UMES falls to 0-9 on the season.

Andrea Macchiavello and Liza Gordeeva are now 4-2 in doubles play after they claimed an 8-0 win against Reine Fowajuh and Petra Jerabkova. Yvonne Kamegne and Marie Habiyaremye improved to 8-2 with their 8-0 victory over Jasmine Jennings and Alex Manolova. UMES defaulted at the No. 3 spot because they did not have enough players.

Gordeeva posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Fowajuh to win her third consecutive singles match. She is now 9-5 overall in singles play. Macchiavello competed at the No. 2 position, where she also claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win against Jerabkova. In the No. 3 spot, Kamegne claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jennings. Lhorca defeated Selena Jones, 6-0, 6-0. Ana Popovic competed at the No. 5 position, where she upended Manolova, 6-0, 6-0. Popovic is now 5-0 on the season in singles play. The Lady Hawks defaulted at the No. 6 spot because they did not have enough players.

NSU will face Longwood on Tuesday. Play begins at 2 p.m. at the Everett Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan.
