Box Score GREENVILLE, N.C. – UNC Wilmington kept the Norfolk State volleyball team winless on the season with a 3-0 victory over the Spartans on Saturday afternoon in the East Carolina Invitational at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
The Spartans kept it close in the second and third sets, won by the Seahawks 25-22 and 25-23. UNC Wilmington started off the match with a 25-13 victory in the first set.
NSU (0-6) was led by junior
Jessica Johnson, who tallied nine kills, and freshman
Clarke Tyler, who contributed seven kills and hit .316. Tyler was later named to the all-tournament team.

Jasmin Flowers, in her first match of the season, each had a pair of kills as NSU built an 8-7 lead in the second set. The Seahawks (5-1) turned that deficit into a 17-12 lead. The Spartans made a short run at the end before UNC Wilmington took a 2-0 lead into the break.
In the third set, the Seahawks killed NSU's momentum with a 7-0 run. A service ace from junior
Darcy Moore got the Spartans to within two at 13-11, but they called timeout a short time later a down by five. Sophomore
Tori Tulensru had a pair of kills as NSU began to chip away at the lead.
A couple of errors on the Seahawks tied it up at 21-21, but the Spartans were unable to get over the hump as UNC Wilmington took the match.
Morgan Kline and Meredith Peacock combined for 17 kills for the Seahawks. UNC Wilmington hit .190, compared to .076 for Norfolk State.
Moore had 30 assists, and junior
Meghan Peji added 15 digs.
NSU will compete in the Panther Classic next weekend at Pittsburgh.
