BRIDGEWATER, N.J. --- The Norfolk State baseball team earned two weekly Northeast Conference (NEC) honors, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Outfielder
Justin Journette garnered Player of the Week recognition, while infielder
Mason Mompoint claimed Rookie of the Week honors.
Journette batted 6-for-12 with seven RBIs, two doubles and a home run during a 1-2 week against Manhattan. He delivered his strongest performance in the series opener, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs, three runs scored, a double and a home run. He capped the weekend with a 3-for-3 effort in the finale, adding three runs scored, two RBIs and a double.
Mompoint hit 6-for-14 with two RBIs and a home run against Manhattan. He went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, a run scored and a home run in the opener. In the final game of the series, Mompoint finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Norfolk State returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 25, hosting cross-town rival Old Dominion at Marty L. Miller Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
