NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State men's tennis standouts
Dominik Simunovic and
Marcin Andrzejczak earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) weekly honors following strong performances across five matches last week against Longwood, Virginia State, Temple, Wagner and Rider.
Simunovic was named MEAC Player of the Week, while Andrzejczak earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Simunovic posted a perfect 4-0 record in singles play, competing at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. He won all four matches in straight sets, allowing no more than three games in any set.
He opened the week with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Longwood's Rufus Plane at No. 3 singles before earning a 6-2, 6-3 win over Temple's Matteo Crespi. Simunovic continued his dominant run with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Wagner's Pablo Rodriguez Gonzalez and capped the week with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Rider's Axel Engstrom, both at the No. 4 spot.
In doubles action, Simunovic teamed with
Boris Lunin to earn a 7-6 (7-3) victory at No. 2 doubles over Temple's Pranav Nemani and Alberto Blumenschein.
Andrzejczak compiled a 2-3 record in singles play, primarily competing at the No. 1 position, while adding a doubles victory to earn MEAC Rookie of the Week honors.
The freshman from Lodz, Poland, picked up singles wins over Virginia State's Bryan Jordan (6-1, 6-3) and Rider's Matt Froberg Dahlin (7-6 (7-3), 6-3). He also battled in a pair of competitive matches, including a 7-5, 7-5 decision against Longwood's Daniel Borisov at No. 2 singles, along with contests against Temple's Aayush Bhat and Wagner's Eddie Schmidt.
In doubles play, Andrzejczak secured a 6-0 victory alongside Marcin Dójczynski at the No. 1 position against Virginia State's Bryan Jordan and Justin Jackson.
