PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --- The Norfolk State baseball team defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 11-4 in NEC action at Hawk Stadium on Sunday afternoon, claiming the series 2-1.
Norfolk State improved to 18-25 overall, while Maryland Eastern Shore fell to 8-33.
Nyenati Snoh (1-1) earned the win in relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Walker Fuller started on the mound, tossing two strikeouts.
Ryan Sellers and
Yasseel Samboy combined for the final 2.2 scoreless innings, with Samboy striking out four.
Justin Journette led the Spartans, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBIs, a double, and a home run.
Jaydan Israel finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while
Thomas Ealey added two RBIs and two runs scored.
Kydese Queen recorded two hits and two RBIs, and
Brendan Burke chipped in an RBI hit.
Norfolk State jumped out quickly, scoring four runs in the first inning. The Spartans capitalized on an error and timely hitting, highlighted by Queen's two-run double.
The Spartans added two more runs in the second inning when Journette launched a two-run home run to right field, extending the lead to 6-0. NSU continued its offensive surge in the third inning. Israel delivered an RBI single before Ealey drove in two runs with a base hit, pushing the advantage to 9-0.
Maryland Eastern Shore responded in the fourth inning, scoring four runs on a three-run home run and an RBI single to cut the deficit to 9-4. Norfolk State answered in the sixth inning.
Josiah Harrison tripled to drive in a run, and Burke reached on an error that allowed another run to score, stretching the lead to 11-4.
The Spartans' bullpen shut the door the rest of the way. Snoh, Sellers, and Samboy combined to hold Maryland Eastern Shore scoreless over the final five innings to secure the victory.
