Box Score FARMVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team couldn't overcome a talented Longwood team on Tuesday afternoon, falling 6-1 at New Lancer Tennis Courts.
Longwood dominated singles play to achieve the result, winning all six matches after losing the opening doubles point.
Frederick McRae and
Igor Kubalka got the match going with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 doubles position over Alejandro Uribe and Petter Lindquist, before
Deniz Okyay and
Jakub Solarski clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Marko Mrdak and Petar Belosevic on Court 2.
Longwood took control from there. Mauricio Gonzalez Paiva bested Okyay 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 2 singles position, before Belosevic defeated
Boris Lunin Lunin 6-4, 6-4 at position three. Timeo Puech put the Lancers ahead 3-1 with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-1, 4-6 win over Solarski at the top spot in the lineup.
Uribe clinched the match for Longwood with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win over McRae on position four and Mrdak followed closely behind with a 7-5, 6-1 result over Kubalka on Court 5. Lindquist closed things out, defeating
Michele Elia 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 6 position.
Norfolk State returns to action on Thursday morning, facing Hampton on the road.
